Safari Beta 3.0 release for OSX and Windows
Incase you didn’t know Safari Beta 3.0 has been released and it runs on windows. It can be downloaded from Apple’s site. Now this is a good thing for all those mac users who happen to own a windows machine and don’t to indulge in the IE7 or Firefox experience. However it’s still in Beta form, and I am sure there will be lots of changes in the future.
As it stands right now, its quick at loading webpages just like the website says, but I don’t think the difference is that spectacular. Fractions of a second on my front page, if that. As for memory, Safari uses the second most amount of memory on startup at 34,152 K. IE7 used the most at 39,900 K, Firefox came in second using 33,048 K and Opera came in first using 25,412 K. Each browser was set to open up the same webpage on startup (http://www.google.ca/ig/) just to be fair.
Apple still has some kinks to work out, but right now, Safari already seems like a valid browser contender on the Windows platform. Perhaps we will be seeing Safari for linux soon?
