HOWTO: Upgrade your PSP to Firmware 3.10 OE-A’

Caution! - This may brick your PSP if the steps are not followed properly! Please follow all of the instructions carefully, and if it doesn’t work and you brick your PSP, I didnt twist your arm, or hold a gun to your head, so don’t come crying to me.

3.10 OE-A and OE-A’ boasts an impressive list of feature updates including:

3.10 OE-A Changes

  * Change from 3.03 firmware to 3.10.
  * 4th level of brightness (aka battery eater) can now be selected also without ac adaptor.
  * Changes in hen core:
    - Static user elf’s can now be executed in the 3.10 kernel. (this includes snes user version between other programs)
    - Tyranid’s patch (added in 3.03 OE-C) consequences was not explained very well in the changelog of 3.03 OE-C:
o For programmers: it allows kernel modules to have user imports, making kernel programming in 3.03/3.10 less strict.
o For users: plugins and applications that worked in 2.71 SE, but not in OE, *may* now work in 3.03OE-C and 3.10 OE-A.

Note 1: the installer will disable all plugins to avoid incompatibilities when booting. You can enable them again in the recovery menu.

Note 2: the plugin to load 3.02 pops won’t work anymore in 3.10 OE, due to some changes in pops modules structure (meaudio fused with popsman, idcanager/idmanager behaviour slightly changed). A new plugin for 3.10 could be written next week.

3.10 OE-A’ Changes:

  * Corrected a bug that caused Metal Slug 6 (from Metal Slug Anthology), and other umd/iso games containing a static elf to show error 0×80020148.

To upgrade to firmware 3.10 OE-A’ you must first be running 3.10 OE-A, so we will start by upgrading to that firmware first.

Step 1. The first thing you will have to do is download all of the files needed for the upgrade.

310oe_a.rar
310_a2update.rar

Step 2. First you will need to upgrade to 3.10 OE-A before you can go to OE-A’. Uncompress the 310oe_a.rar and copy the contents to /PSP/GAME150 on your PSP using the USB file transfer mode. *NOTE* If you are upgrading from PSP 1.50 firmware just copy the directories to /PSP/GAME.

Once these directories are copied, go to the game menu and run the 3.10 OE-A Update Maker. This step will take a little bit, so be patient. Now would be a good time to make sure your PSP is plugged into the power and not running off battery mode. You will need to have your battery at, at least 75% for the upgrade to be a success.

Step 3. After the Update Maker is complete, initiate USB file transfer mode again and go into /PSP/GAME150/oeupdmaker and copy the data.dxar file to /PSP/GAME150/310oeflasher. Once this file is copied over, exit the USB file transfer mode, go back to the GAME menu, and run the 3.10 OE-A Firmware Install.

Once the installer loads up press the X button to continue with the upgrade. It will now verify the data.dxar file and proceed with the upgrade. Once the upgrade is complete you will then press X again which will turn off your PSP. Turn the PSP back on manually.

You are now running the 3.10 OE-A firmware.

Step 4. Now proceed with uncompressing 310_a2update.rar. Go back into USB file transfer mode and copy over the 310_a2update folder to your /PSP/GAME150 folder. Exit USB file transfer mode, go into the GAME menu and run the 3.10 OE-A’ Updater. This will quickly update your firmware and exit back to the XMB. You are now running the 3.10 OE-A’ firmware.

Step 5. To clear up space on your memory stick you can now go back on your PSP and delete all of the files we copied over.

Enjoy your updated firmware!

    Hey All,
I just upgraded from 1.50 to 3.10 oe-a, then to oe-a’ with no problems at all.Worked like a charm. I would advise anyone looking to update to downgrade to 1.50 first. Like I said worked perfect for me, just followed the instructions from 1.50. If anyone needs help feel free to email me. By the way just want to add a huge thanks to the writer of this tutorial, spent all night last night looking for easy to follow instructions and this was it.

Do have one question for anyone who knows, If if format my mem stick will I still be able to play PS1 games afterwards or is a emulator installed on the mem stick when you upgrade? PS1 games are AWESOME in this upgrade. Thanks

  18. Comment by gameR | 03/12/07 at 6:31 am

All homebrew games including 3.10oe-a’ folder should be in GAME150 folder. Not GAME folder. Otherwise, they won’t work.

  19. Comment by psp king jonathan | 03/13/07 at 8:03 pm

  20. Comment by ear3d | 03/14/07 at 7:55 pm

If you are running 3.10 oe-a and want to run homebrew and emulators you have to boot to recovery mode and change your kernel to 1.50, it works fine then.

  30. Comment by Arshia | 04/04/07 at 7:33 am

James,The PSP’s menus will be in english, but you can change the language.I don’t know if you’re talking about a special PSP type.Mine is PSP-1004,and I can change the language from settings/system settings/system language.Includes 3 east-asian languages, one of which should be japanese.

  33. Comment by Arshia | 04/09/07 at 7:46 am

BLACK JAK : Try changing the Kernel.Hold down R while booting, and go to the settings menu.from there, you can change the kernel.try with both 1.50 and 3.03 kernel with the files in the PSP\GAME folder.
I once had to change my kernel to 1.50 to run non-1.50 games while they were in the GAME folder. It’s a bit messy. But it should work.

can anyone help me please… i was able to upgrade to 3.10 oe-A, but when i tried to upgrade to 3.10oe-A’ an error occured… it says the game could not be played… is there any other file to use instead of the one given above? f0r the update

  36. Comment by Brandon_psp | 04/14/07 at 10:49 pm

HI Mel… i believe it requires a UMD to play the games… same as in my case… it will fool your PSP that it is playing from the UMD where in fact its playing from your memory stick.

  37. Comment by Brandon_psp | 04/14/07 at 10:52 pm

Hi Nelson… if your upgrading from 1.50 fw you dont have to put files to /PSP/GAME150. you just have to place it in /PSP/GAME.

  38. Comment by franky | 04/16/07 at 2:46 pm

i have upgrade from 1.50 to 3.10 OEA’ everything is ok!
but in 3 iso umd games i receive the errors: 80020130 with umd inside psp and 80020321 without umd (propably say needs the umd).
    can you help?

  39. Comment by James | 04/18/07 at 6:30 pm

Hi guys this question is about the use no umd feature. most iso won’t load with out the umd even with the use no umd selected. My real question is; will ALL CSOs load with no UMD? If a specific ISO won’t load with out the disk can I turn it into a CSO and get it to load? My psp won’t read games even after changing the laser, every now and then it surprices me by loading the disk I keep in there, but does anyone know why a mother board won’t read disks? Thanks for the help guys!

Hey Dave, whats up, I am having the same problem of Cris up there. By the way I got a 4gb memory stick, it gave me some hassles but its find, let me help everybody before someone helps me:

    1. Memory Sticks wont be recognized, just turn the PSP off completly insert the new memory stick in and turn it on… go format it and if it wont be read, then take it out and stick it back in. Most compatible ones: SanDisk and Sony.

    2. I got this problem and fixed it, I formatted the 4gb stick and got corrupted data and wouldnt work, so I formated with the USB connection with my windows and then copy/paste the files from my main memory stick and that fixed the problems with the new 4gb Stick.

Okay now to my main problems. I got 2:

    A. I got my firmware to 3.10-OE*A I got to play SOME Iso and CSO files, but some will give me a black screen

    B. Others wont even appear on the Memory stick when trying to play them, for example I got DBZ Another Road in the memory stick but I cant even find the game in the stick.

Can someone help me fix that problem? Thanks in advance.

  44. Comment by Drake | 05/19/07 at 10:10 pm

I forgot to mention I DO own the games I am trying to load, so they are not piracy, sorry I had to specify that, otherwise I will be kicked out. :) By the way there is a new Update 3.40OE

  45. Comment by Mario | 06/28/07 at 3:37 pm

    To drake,

In the recovery menu make sure that the no umd option is disabled then put a umd in the drive, next time you load the games they work.
